Why is a thread that answers valid questions "off topic"?

As most of you know, voice is coming soon (though not to the Linux client as far as I know). This has been hailed with a number of reactions, and a great many questions.

What, precisely, is the point of this forum if actual threads that answer actual questions are deemed "off topic" and locked without appeal?

This is an honest question; I fail to see the point of a Resident Answers forum that doesn't actually allow Resident Questions.

Officially, it's supposed to be for "newbie help" type questions with single correct answers, not questions regarding people's opinions.

Hush, we don't ask such uncorporate questions in this forum. Lest the Lindens would have to answer tough question...oh, wait, thier standing operating procedure is to sweep it under the rug and wait another day for the fallout and then they scramble for damage control.

As for newbie questions..well, only premium residents can access the forums, the other 99% of newbies are stuck with calling Live Help..oh wait, that's gone too. Guess they'll have to figure it out for themselves.

Perhaps a review of the hundreds, perhaps thousands, of posts on voice would answer whatever question you have about it.

That's not really something you could figure out from looking at where enforcement happens, though.

Well, the problem is, as far as voice is concerned, I AM a newbie. And I have PLENTY of questions. That thread was interesting, and answered a bunch of my questions, and was helping me put in perspective just how terrified I should be by this new change.

It was probably THE MOST HELPFUL THREAD I've read here in months.

I have nothing to add, I just wanted to be included in this thread before *somebody* locks it.

Overzealous moderation, per usual. God forbid people get answers to questions, and at the same time, discuss something.

Maybe I should have added "or moved to a place where no one will ever see it" to the original post.

I was talking to someone who joined SL in 2004. She said at that time there was a general and an OT forum. Don't know why they were deleted but if LL brought back at least General, there would be less reason to use Resident Answers for general opinion and chat don't you think?

We did before people went of edge and start flame wars everday. We has some better controls now, but some are still at it as if was 2004.

No - you have to have a verified account to read/post in the forums. My account is basic.
