Shouldn't ResMods know the community they are policing?

Does the ResMod in question even know what OZ and Neverland were? Do they even KNOW Mash Mandala and Baccara?

Do they even KNOW that Linden Labs has consistenty in the past SUPPORTED the efforts of real-world charities such as the MS Walk, Vertu's fundraisers, and many more legit charities. Posts about OTHER fundraisers have not been blocked. Do they know that kintera.org is one of the most trusted charity sites in the world?

One more example of the flawed ResMod program, it's impossibility to be enforced uniformly by the ResMods and the Linden inability to care about heavy-handed, holier-than-thou ResMods.

That post in question was not a solicitation for an individual, it was for a legit 503(c) Non-Profit corporation raising money IN HONOR of someone, in this case Baccara. The part of the TOS that was violated is vague and enforced sparingly. Before the lame ResMods came along, the Lindens only enforced it when someone solicited money for themselves, not for freaking charities.

Get a clue, Euterpe Roo.

I dunno, Hiro's threads get moved with consistency now, so it's not all bad.

PS. I do agree on this one though, sometimes the part of the CS/TOS that's posted as an explanation for the action really doesn't make much sense in the context it's invoked. It doesn't on that post.

Makes sense to me.

- Euterpe is not a noob (Mr. Levy knows this)
- Euterpe is one of the nicest, most sensitive forum members bar none (he knows this too)
- I am older than she and I didn't know about Oz and Neverland
- The section quoted for the freeze was entirely relevant to the post IMO

Even if it was wrong, it's an honest mistake and no harm has been done. I am getting kind of tired of all the hyperbole and yelling about resmods who are just trying to do their job.

Give the girl a break! If the OP was seriously concerned about the closure of the thread the appropriate thing to do would have been to PM her and let her know the details, not rip her apart in the forums.

Ok, the noob comment doesn't apply. I thought their profile said 2006, not 2005, my bad.

But my main points still stand. The post was not a solicitation for anything the Lindens haven't supported, even promoted, in the past.

I don't think Mash's post is on par with this one.

I don't think it needed to be closed, but I would rather see a hard line on this, than to see more requests like LF's request.

The thread in question did contain a real world information link/request for money and has been edited - the rest of the post contains information about an in-world fundraiser and as such has been moved to the Special Attractions section of the Classifieds.

When a thread is closed for review, it is reviewed by both ResMods and Lindens before any further action is taken. In this case, the thread was reopened and moved to the appropriate location.

I agree with you, but others may side with Aaron.
I guess that's why it's good to put something like that up for review.
:)

My concern was mostly that Euterpe was being attacked kind of vociferously for something that really didn't deserve that level of reaction and that she has posted here often enough for most people to be aware of what kind of person she is (IMO).

Please accept my sincere apologies for rashly closing a thread--as Jeska points out, usually action is not taken until after Linden review.

I am thrilled that the thread has been re-opened in the appropriate section, and I wish the very best to Mr. Mandala and Ms. Rhodes.

I intended no harm to Mash or to Ms. Rhodes. Mr. Levy, I applaud your taking a public stand on an issue when you though an injustice was being done.

Which further supports my calls that if the flawed ResMod program is to continue to fleece free labor from your customers, that ResMods should close the thread with NO COMMENT. When they comment on why something's been closed, even for review, they politicize it and be come self-appointed interpreters of the SL TOS, which, last time I checked, the average user isn't qualified to do.

I just wanted to state that it was nothing personal against Euterpe, really. I would have responded the same way no matter which ResMod would have made the post.

Despite my strong opposition to the ResMod program, I hold nothing against the ResMods themselves, as they are just not aware that they are being used by Linden Labs as a free labor force.

Do searches on Google for the problems that AOL, Yahoo, About.com, and many other large companies ran into when they enlisted volunteer labor. Linden Lab is making the same mistake and most of the volunteers being abused by them don't even realize that they are being taken advantage of.

Nicely said Euterpe, although I do not see how an apology was necessary. Nice nonetheless. I'd like to add that I fully endorse the RezMod program. These boards must have been even more nuts before this program was implemented. It's a thankless job you all do and I just wanted you to know that, at least, some of us appreciate your efforts.

Actually, Kaboom, they weren't. The Lindens were handling the moderation of the forums fine. Someone monitored some threads a few weeks ago (I'll search for it and find it if I must) that looked at how long it took threads to get locked and closed. Response time to threads being closed has actually increased. At the same time the number of threads closed and reopened because they were closed in error has increased exponentially.

The ResMod program is failing, causing MORE bitterness in the forums than ever before, and has been called a bad idea by many "pillars" of Second Life, i.e., people who've been here from the beginning. It's a flawed program.

I know nothing of the companies you reference here Aaron, however I've worked for a company since 1997 which has over 300 discussion boards and which has always used volunteer labor to moderate the discussions. Certainly, there have been instances where the moderators have made mistakes, but on the whole the moderating system has worked very well.

I can't accurately say one way or another because I've only been here since late Novemeber. I can only speak from my personal experience with moderating discussion boards. What you say about delay time and more mistakes being made makes sense in that I would imagine that activity here has increased on the boards exponetially with the population explosion. I would also imagine that the Lindens decided to implement the RezMod program because they, the Lindens, were becoming overwhelmed by the sheer volume of activity. It's just a personal preference, but I prefer moderated boards to those that are not moderated. From what I've seen here in comparison to my own personal experience, it seems that the program is working fairly well. Is what I say really that far afield of the true picture?

Of course I've heard of them. I've just never had anything to do with them. All I want from an ISP is a network connection and nothing else...not even the use of their mail servers or usenet feeds.

Well, this thread actually sounds a bit more mature than, say, that graceless attack on me a while back. Oh, but let's just all say these rants are for the greater good of the forum and not for exalting any personal indignation.

Well, it can be a you're-damned-if-you-do-and-you're-damned-if-you-don't situation. If we leave threads, we get accused of not being worth the trouble and not doing anything, and that abuse reports aren't responded to and are being ignored.

If we move the ones we feel warrent moving, we get accused of inconsistancy.

And if we move them all we get accused of over-moderation.
