I've been hearing a lot of people complain about their threads being locked/closed pending review. So I just wanted to take a minute to offer a little clarification on the subject, although I'm pretty sure it's been posted before.
I think a lot of times the original poster feels unfairly singled out when their thread is closed but a lot of times, if not most of the time, it's subsequent posts within that thread that cause it to be closed. And as resmods we do not have the ability to delete or edit any posts, including the offending ones. So our only recourse is to close it pending review. At which time, a Linden can (and sometime does) delete or edit the offending posts or ask the poster to edit then reopens the thread. Or if the thread has gone too far off course or is seriously circling the drain, they leave it closed.
And most importantly resmods have absolutely nothing to do with disciplinary action. We do not offer our opinion on who should be disciplined, nor do we offer our opinion on what the discipline should be. The majority of the threads that are acted upon are received via email by both the resmods and the Lindens via the abuse reporting system which a forum reader activates. I'm not sure what information those AR's contain for the Lindens, but for us there are no names of the AR originator - just the selected post, the corresponding thread and an area for explanation of why the AR originator feels the post/thread needs attention.
Hope that helps a little.
