Unless the thread contains trolling/flaming/etc type of posts, tehre is no reason to lock any thread in Resident Answers. The closing of discussion threads is counter productive to the reason the Resident Forums were opened. I point all RezMods to this post, just in case they missed it. /327/8d/138314/1.html Read it carefully. No where does it say a post here must be a question. I specifically point out Torleys point #1 and point #2. "Any Resident can post & Reply" and "You can talk about stuff". I respectfully request RezMods moderate the posts for trolling/flaming and violations of the ToS (such as the "naming names" policy) and cease locking of all poilite, intelligent threads. Thank you.

Get some questions answered, you selfish person! Work it!

Jessica- The first line of Torley's post sums up the purpose of Resident Answers: Resident Answers is a simple, friendly place to ask your fellow Residents of Second Life for help. (And I'm assuming that Torley didn't mean asking our fellow residents of SecondLife to help bash on Linden Lab when we're annoyed at something. )

maybe they closed the threads as 1. they dont have time to moderate 2. they own and control their blog and can do what they like -- its their blog and they dont want more comments - get over it.

And Who The Hell Do You Think YOU 2k Suiesei, Are?... ok that doesn't sound too polite either now.. does it?apparently 2k Suisei, you're a resident, like Jessica is, and so am i as are those residents who've responded so far.. And why did you assume that Jessica is a selfish person? have you ever met Jessica in real life, let alone in-world to ascertain that fact of life? Now, there's no need to resort to getting ugly on the forums while responding to others requests, dear 2k Suisei or name calling either for that matter... makes sense ma ami? oui? From: 2k Suisei Apparently, we're all here to take the strain off the Linden Lab support team by answering residents questions. We're not here to have fun or a discussion. Why do resmods lock threads? If we are talking generally across the forums, then it is because of very specific violations of the forum guidelines. Now is a good time to reacquaint oneself with the forum guidelines. The Resident Answers forum falls under more restrictive rules as to keep it from becoming any more like the old General forums which were closed because of rampant trolling, flaming, etc. In other words the RA forum is an experiment in having a discussion forum. If we are talking about recent CopyBot moderation... those threads fall into 3 catagories: Legitimate Questions, Opinions, Trolling / Naming Names. Unfortunately the RA forum is for legitimate questions, and not the latter two. There are plenty of third party forums (check the Resident Website forum for links) which allow general discussion; which are not bound by the SL TOS, CS or Forum Guidelines. *moves thread to ResMod discussion forum*

From: bilbo99 Emu ahem! ... at least four threads closed last week that never even mentioned Linden .. or CopyBot? I have no doubt you're right. I wasn't saying that bashing was the only reason that RA threads get locked... I was saying that even a thread that looked like a resident genuinely asking for help... to do something inappropriate... is probably fair game for being locked.

I don't remember any threads like that, though what you say does hold true. A lot happened last week so please forgive me if i forgotten a thread or two. On the off chance anyone asks about the anti-libsl threads getting closed, those are for naming names. The RA forum is a help forum, not a forum to (en)gage the communities moral compass. Threads that are more social oriented, will be given greater scrutiny.

Jessica, I think you have totally twisted what Torley's post sticky post says, and deliberatly ignored major points, such as: " Resident Answers is a simple, friendly place to ask your fellow Residents of Second Life for help." "* You can ask about stuff like ways to earn L$, land management tips, and newcomer questions if you're new to Second Life!" " * In addition to the forum Guidelines, abusive behavior here will result in permanent removal of access to this forum. Making posts which are deliberately unhelpful or disruptively off-topic will lead to being banned from Resident Answers." Numerous threads that were posted and locked were intentionally off-topic. It seems clear to me that Resident Answers was never intended to be an open forum for discussion of deviant lifestyles or rants about how those lifestyle practitioners are mistreated in SL. I appreciate the resmods efforts to limit those threads that are off topic for residents answers.

Let's not forget that the real guilty party is Linden Lab, who removed the most useful parts of the forum in the first place.

The first is making shoes at night while, you know, while the old cobbler sleeps. You can bake cookies in a tree. But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

Threads are locked because some people have an agenda which has nothing to do with resident answers. It really is very simple. If a person wants to get on their soapbox, and rant, their thread may be locked. The same may be said of the point counterpoint people who may want to debate every word of another poster to the end of all eternity.
This is a resident answer forum and not a debating society.
