Curious about Beryl.
Does it do anything extra to assisst 3d accelerated apps like games? Or is it just a 3d desktop manager?

As far as I know and understand, but that may be not much, it's just a 3D-Desktop for KDE. But the combination 3D-Cube and Window animations is really nice. Nevertheless SL still works fine. no crash or freeze yet. Sound & Music is ok. I got to check the movie streams.

It's its own window manager, and has its own window decorator, Emerald. I've used it with both gnome and kde. Second Life does runs a bit slower for me with Beryl running vs a 2d desktop, but its very usable still. But yes, Beryl is awesome. Oh, SL can't stream video under Linux yet, unless I missed something, so don't stress out trying to make it work.

I've been using PClinuxOS for a few months now, just downloaded the new PCLinuxOS 2007 and installed the Nvidia proprietary drivers, SL worked first go, out of the box...
To say that PCLinuxOS 2007 is impressive is an understatement... IT ROCKS!!!
I've tried others, liked ubuntu, fedora, mepis, knoppix and suse but PCLinuxOS is the easiest to work with, the package manager just works and with beryl set up, it looks superb...
I would recommend this flavour to newbs and experienced M$ users... easy to use, but if u like to get ur hands dirty... u can

with compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon R250 Lf [Fir eGL 9000] (rev 01) and client 1.13.3.2 works fine but with the client 1_14_0_1 it's a little bit slower so i still be using the 1.13.3.2... Thanks for this good work, Linden's, continue in this way and thanks for not forgeting people who have choose to run with the linux OS...
