Has anyone else had problems with skirts rezzing incorrectly or being unable to change their length in the appearance editor? Even with textured skirts, I have been having a problem where changing the length makes no difference in the skirt.

Wear another skirt and switch back, or go into appearance and back out. this has to do with the baked texture. You could always make skirt the last thing to wear since both skirt and jacket go on top of the bake.

Thank you for the reply, but I have tried all of those things. Even in the appearance editor, creating a new skirt from scratch, I can't change it's length, it's stuck on 100%. Even the preview images above the slider are both stuck on 100% length....

Are you trying this in linux? There was a known bug (or feature) that doesn't let you change apperance well in Linux. If you have access to a windows machine try doing this or use the wine way and see if that makes a difference.

Also SL itself has a bug that creeps up over time with apperance becoming ruthfied. What you need to do to un-ruth youself is drag a costume folder onto you from clothing (one that you made with --make outfit-- option earlier). This happens overtime to avatars and can cause the shape to change.

Also if this problem exists with wine version try complete wipe re-installing.

Last I heard, and experienced, the alpha channel bug in was easily fixed in linux with the application of libalpha.so, which can be found here. However, the alpha bug also persists when using wine, and there is, as far as I know, no patch or way to fix it. So it's use a patched linux or actual windows if you need to change your appearance. I could be wrong about which bug you mean, there may be a new one I'm unaware of and have yet to experience, but the only appearance bug I've experienced in the SL linux client is the alpha channel one.

Yes, this sounds like the old alpha channel bug. The fix should be part of the current native Linux client, though. And I have heard that the newer wine versions also handle alpha layers correctly. So it's a bit of a mystery why the problem seems to come up again.

That's really strange because I've found the Linux client to be very reliable for changing clothes.

I've even been playing with making new skirts (though I have to upload the textures using the mac) and that works fine on Linux. So its very puzzling.

Just to add wine 0.9.15 also fixes these problems.

ninjafoo Ngsaurus Rex,

The alpha problem is fixed in 0.9.15? I haven't had a chance to try it out, but will tonight for sure.

I am using the Linux, which is why I posted to this particular forum. :)

I have tried every combination of removing clothes/putting them back on/switching to other outfits. I have tried relogging, clearing cache, switching to the Windows client under Wine, uninstalling completely then reinstalling from scratch, installing to a different user account, running the Linux client with the libalphafy wrapper library, resetting to defaults in the debug menu, rebaking textures in the debug menu, etc.

I do not think this has anything to do with the alpha bug. The skirt problem is even showing up, as I said, in the appearance editor. I remove the skirt, go into appearance editor, create a new skirt, and the 0 length and 100 length images are the same.

Additionaly, the problems seem to be spreading. At times my entire avatar renders solid black, the top part of a skirt or pants may be be transparent, etc... and I have begun having crashing problems again. None of this happened when I first started running the 1.10.2 client. At first it worked almost perfectly. I was very pleased after the constant crashings.

I suspect this may have something to do with the preparations being made for the next upgrade tomorrow, and very much suspect the problem is on the server side, or it wouldn't persist across installs and clients.

Switch off the avatar vertex program in the Preferences dialog and try again?

Zi, thank you for the suggestion, but that option is greyed out in my menu. It isn't checked, but there is no way for me to toggle it to be sure. Is there perhaps an option I can set in settings.ini to force it off?

Not sure why that should be. I've had no such problems at all, ever, with this Linux client.

Could it be a video card driver problem ? I'm using the latest NVIDIA drivers.
