Has anyone successfully gotten into SL with this graphics card? Running Feisty 7.04 factory installed, Dell Inspiron 1420n.
I just want to be sure before I try to install on this box.
Thanks!!

I wanted to buy a Dell with pre-installed Linux, they messed me around so ended up with a HP. Successfully have it ALL Gutsy'd up and powering dual boot but only boot to vista (which runs SL fine) to update it.
My take is go right ahead...Dell are in the business of having all their products linux compatible but for their own safety only have a small certified Linux line of product.

Nope, completely crashes the machine. I might need different drivers. It won't run my screensavers either, I just discovered... hadn't tested that before.
Ah well! Advice welcomed!

You may have found out already (old threat) but you have to remove the package "xserver-xgl" to make 3D work with that !*&0!? Intel cards.
Or buy a PC with Nvidia...

I have an HP laptop Running Ubuntu 7.10. It has an Integrated Intel 855GM from 2005 and SL works. You might have to search for how to enable 3D and GLX / OpenGL. Can you try something for me? Try in terminal: glxinfo | grep rendering and give the output. Also, just curious how much RAM do you have? You are running feisty? If you search google for something like "ubuntu second life .deb" you might be able to find a version compiled specifically for ubuntu. I had it before, but I dont recall the site.
