I'm looking at the SL Linux client again after upgrading to Hardy and a new Thinkpad X61s. The client seems to run well (apart from the occasional crash), but there are some odd graphical artifacts that make it hard to use.

Firstly, the names above avatars looks like they have been pixellated and half of the pixels removed. That is, ~2x2 or maybe 3x3 squares of pixels in the name do not get displayed - the background shows through instead. The squares are missing at what looks like random. This makes it hard to read the names.

There seems to be some clipping problems, or maybe something else that looks like a clipping problem. Surfaces are missing when I wouldn't expect them to be and often there are appears to be some sort of projection from around my avatar's head (I'm not making this up, honest), usually textured with something from around the same location. These things look like long, narrow pyramids stretching off to infinity. Adjusting the camera angle can make them reliably appear and disappear.

If this sounds pretty bizzare, it looks even more weird. Has anyone seen these issue before? Is it a known bug? Is there a workaround?

 Thanks,
 /Get

Which xorg driver are you guys running? The "intel" or the "i810" one? Which version?

 Cheers,

Worked for me. Framerate will drop tho.

Uncheck the use of VBO .Interesting, I'll check it out when I have a moment. Did it fix both problems I described above or just one of them? Happily, a new version of the Mesa packages were published for Ubuntu Hardy last night (7.0.3~rc2-1ubuntu3) that fixes the infinite-rays-out-of-my-head problem. See https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/+bug/206287 for a link to the f.d.o bug (currently down). Avatar names are still broken, however. I'll see if not using VBO fixes it. /Mike |

I downloaded and installed the latest video drivers, which repaired the issue.

[edit] By "latest video drivers" I should specify the newest ATI fglrx installer from their site.

I looked through open bugs for the intel driver bugs.fdo and didn't find anything existing that looked like the problem, but how are we supposed to tell if it is a driver issue or glx issue (like the second issue was)? /Get |
