EDIT: This does not seem to be a defect after all, but user error. See Llauren's post below. Sorry. :o

I have had others try this with the Windows client and they don't seem to be able to reproduce. Brief searches through this forum and particularly the known issues thread didn't seem to come up with this one.

Edit linked parts
-------------------
1a.) Have someone else create a multi-prim object.
1b.) Optional: Have them grant you modify rights.
2.) Right-click on the object and choose 'Edit...' (DEFECT: This step must be done TWICE; it should only be necessary once). Alternately, go into Edit mode (CTRL-3) and then click on the object (won't work; have to right-click and choose 'Edit...' at this point!).
3.) Check the 'Edit linked parts' checkbox in the Edit dialog (DEFECT: the object is immediately de-selected; selecting again unchecks the 'Edit linked parts' checkbox).

There seems to be no workaround. You cannot view the contents of child prims in other peoples' multi-prim objects, and you cannot edit child prims if you are given modify rights.

Select Texture
-----------------
Repeat the above steps, but with the 'Select Texture' radio button instead of the 'Edit linked parts' checkbox. The object is not deselected right when the radio button is clicked (step #3), but it IS deselected when you click on a texture face.

There IS a workaround for this one. While the object is deselected if you left-click on a texture face, it is NOT deselected if you SHIFT-click on a texture face, so to get one face you must SHIFT-click on all the OTHER faces of the object in order to de-select them (since they all start out selected when the 'Select Texture' radio button is turned on).

What is the state of your Tools/Select Only My Objects menu item? This affects the behavior you describe.
