All the text *everywhere* does not display. The kochi-minche (sp) ttf file does not exist
on my system (linked to from unicode.ttf), so I pointed it at another TTF font file.
Even so, I've tried to log in, and I get to the point where it's supposed to render the world
and it drops back to prompt with no real indication of what the problem is. Below is

Try removing the unicode.ttf symlink, see what happens.

There's a Gentoo package called media-fonts/kochi-substitute that looks like it provides an appropriate file for the unicode.ttf link to point to at /usr/share/fonts/kochi-substitute/kochi-mincho-subst.ttf . I don't have much more detail on it. Gentoo gives the source URL as http://efont.sourceforge.jp/ , which redirects me to http://wiki.fdiary.net/font/ . This page is in Japanese, which I can't read. Still, the Second Life client doesn't complain about it.

The unicode.ttf symlink is strictly optional and only affects the ability to render unicode (non-Latin1) text, such as Japanese glyphs.

Catullus Sprocket Registered User Join date: 12 Feb 2006 Posts: 3	10-29-2006 08:44 There's a Gentoo package called media-fonts/kochi-substitute that looks like it provides an appropriate file for the unicode.ttf link to point to at /usr/share/fonts/kochi-substitute/kochi-mincho-subst.ttf . I don't have much more detail on it. Gentoo gives the source URL as http://efont.sourceforge.jp/ , which redirects me to http://wiki.fdiary.net/font/ . This page is in Japanese, which I can't read. Still, the Second Life client doesn't complain about it.
