hi all,
while lots of people invest real $$ into new machines to run SL smoothly there are still many of us wanting to use what we've got... but the performance issue is killing.
after I successfully compiled 20070112a (with gcc 4.1.1 btw :) i immediately thought that there must be a way to render everything in mesh/wireframe mode. I know nothing about how openGL works, therefor i'm wondering here if anyone thought of similar or may be even did some steps in this direction?

p.s. there 'll be people, im sure, saying "why would you need it, it's worthless", but i think otherwise. why "links" the browser is still in use by many of us? why checking mail using "mutt"? well, besides other reasons there are also reasons of aesthetics and fun which modified SL viewer could easily gain + the ability to run SL on broader range of hardware (PDAs? hehe) ...

see you there

You can turn on wireframe mode by pressing CTRL ALT R. But don't expect too much, you won't see much of a difference, because a lot of the computing power goes into calculating the world, displaying the calculated data is probably not the bottleneck in this environment.
