From: Hello Toonie Almost certainly xgl's fault... Well your most probably correct, But just for (whoever's) information... "Compiz" itself has nothing to do with it, the problem shows up while running just XGL and Sl. Running Sl under wine results in a dialog saying "Can't find suitable pixel format", with "err:wgl:X11DRV_ChoosePixelFormat glXChooseFBConfig returns NULL (glError: 0)" in the terminal.

Don't run SL under XGL/Compiz

Running XGL/Compiz taxes your graphics card. You're essentially running a graphics-intensive program(SL) on top of a graphics-intensive environment(XGL/Compiz). Until graphics cards can handle that situation with no slowdowns, just run SL under a regular Gnome or KDE session.

Hrrrm. Running Ubuntu Edgy with XGL/Compiz and I am not noticing any problems, frame rate is the same as when not running XGL/Compiz. Though Edgy is in alpha stages right now, it could just be today that it is working correctly. XGL/Compiz is relatively new, so may have such bugs. Running two alpha level programs can run into lots of bugs!

Using XGL/Compiz on SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop. No blurry text except for the fact that my character is obviously blind until he get's up close to the text.
For those that have problems, I'd suggest updating the video driver.

Yeah, actually if the most recent nVidia driver will fix this. Dunno if it is a problem for ATI based cards.
