Just installed the client and logged in. Everything works great, but i dont see myself.

I dont have much experience with SL, but i would guess one should see his own avatar?

After i changed a costume (folder?) an other resident was finally be able to see me. For myself, no such luck.

In the account creation process i chooses the japanese sounding (H-something) avatar.

I'm having the same problem and my inventory, including body parts, appears to be empty.

Of course you should see your avatar after logging in. Missing Inventory Content indicates that it might be a problem of the asset server (which stores your look and the content of your inventory). Try the tips at http://secondlife.com/knowledgebase/article.php?id=300 or just give the data base some time to catch up and try back later.

with the alpha release (not first look) you will almost always need to log-out/back-in for the avatar to render.

That's a new one to me ...

Empty inventory and missing Av sounds like a problem I had on Beta (Test Grid) a while ago - I just did NOT get my inventory. And the Av is of course also inventory. In that case, my inventory was simply missing and it was re-generated for me, but I have seen similar effects where it took forever until my Av suddenly popped up.

Getting inventory has on occasion been REALLY slow recently, including an invisible Av that magically appears - also using First Look (which is MUCH faster loading stuff than the normal Alpha Client).

I don't think this is directly a Linux problem, personally.
