have ubuntu 9.1. I'm uing nvidia geforce 8400gs graphics card and i've installed the drivers from the package manager 185.18.36. i checked the nvidia site and those are the latest drivers. but when i try to execute second life it can't draw the window.

I've read the help, but i can't find the area where i can check if i'm using 32 bit color, my card is listed in the good cards for sl, and like i said i have the latest drivers installed. i'm just confused on what can be the issue.

can anybody help with getting it to create the window?

Thanks

w00t \o/ i can't believe i got this thing working. hehe

For the benefit of anyone else who might encounter this issue, can you please explain what you did to fix the problem?

Well, yes, that's true. In fact, if you update your graphics driver through Jockey (restricted driver manager) or apt, you're prompted to reboot anyway.

You are right of course.

After installing the drivers for the Nvidia graphics card. I had to activate them. To do that I went into Sytem/Administration/Hardware Drivers. it found the drivers for the Nvidia card, at the bottom of the window is the button to activate. after doing that and making sure that I had at least 24 bit color selected Second Life had no problem loading.
