I got the following info from Joshua Linden regarding the Linux Preview:

The next update to the preview (later today, hopefully) should include the Linux release. Sorry for not including it in the last few!

We really appreciate the feedback from Linux users - as you point out, porting tends to uncover hidden bugs that linger in all versions. So please keep it coming! And definitely shout if you get worried again.

Hi Josh,

one important if not critical (for you) issue, is the Linux Client.

Is there a chance we will get a preview client too?

It has happened in the past that the linux client was unusable, and forced an update, since the broken parts were ALSO in the other clients and no-one noticed in preview.

I know we linux users are still in alpha, but that is also why we look a LOT closer at the linux preview client than the other users tend to, on average. I feel this is a strength you could exploit, rather than and extra burden.

I live in hope

All the best and thanks for all your hard work!

Angel

Betreff: Second Life 1.11 release on Wednesday, July 19th, 2006

Hi everyone -

We are planning the release of Second Life version 1.11 on Wednesday July 19, 2006 pending final verification of all issues. Second Life will be unavailable from 7am to 12pm PDT/SLT for the update. New client software will be required to access 1.11.

The 1.11 Preview grid will be available all weekend. There are some known issues, but please check out the new functionality for yourself. Second Life viewers can be downloaded from the Preview page of our website, http://secondlife.com/community/preview.php.

Changes include:
* Zoomable UI (check out Preferences > Graphics > UI Size)
* Improved snapshot functionality
* Eyedropper tool for picking colors and textures
* Single-gesture pie menu (down, drag, up, instead of two clicks)
* Tear off menus
* Parcel ban limits extended to 300

Release notes will be available on Tuesday, pending final verification of all issues.

Joshua Bell aka Joshua Linden

I can confirm that the 1.11 and 1.12 tarballs are NOT broken!

I'm testing 'em out now.

1.12 seems to run really nice! Though I ran into an odd texture/skin problem. Though it may not be client related as the database could be bad.. but I am not exactly sure.

The skin of one avatar(furry) is corrupted with the shirt it wears, even changing avatars won't fix it. But, that is outside what is normally being tested for. Otherwise lookin' good! :)

*EDIT* Took a few cycles of removing, unpacking originals and rebaking and it cleared up nicely.
