Great! Thanks for the post! I'm anxious to see the client in action, so I hope the grid will be online soon

Happy dance!
Just one suggestion: next time, set up a BitTorrent, to avoid the massive bottleneck we're beating against now. Keep an MD5 or SHA1 file to download, so there's a validation method we can trust, but let us share the load...it will get around a lot faster during the initial feeding frenzy.
That said...thank you, thank you! If we were in SL, I'd hug you and do a happy dance!
P.S. Thank you!

From: Jabador Jimador uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhhh... can't wait for the download to finish Twas worth it! I get to try to log in now, not need to patch in older libs, see my last logout screen, see that the grid is down and get a cool fade effect back to the login screen. AWESOME! I think I'll copy/paste my username back and forth some while I wait!!! B-D

now if only I could upload some textures...
Ok I do textures and don't have a mac or pc. I do sl where I can show off them but am unable to do so. So it is a bit personal.

* Work around window managers stopping SL from seeing Alt Zoom (or Ctrl Drag)
09-14-2006 02:35
Is this work-around *optional* at all as I believe it is what's messed up my window manager now. (Standard Ubuntu Gnome installation, nothing special) Previously I had no window manager problems with SL at all, I could ALT-TAB, and CTRL-ALT-<arrow key> to swap virtual desktops, but now SL is stealing the CTRL-ALT-<arrow key> and preventing the WM from seeing it, meaning that I can use the keyboard to swap TO SL, but not to swap back away from it! Apart from that, and the continuing lack of file upload ability, almost everything else in this release has made me go RAR! YAY! (oh, is it just me or does everyone now get the IM window all over the place instead of being the same size/position it used to be?)

IM window is severely broken in this release, not only for the Linux client.

Hi! From: Fuzzy Bowman but now SL is stealing the CTRL-ALT-<arrow key> and preventing the WM from seeing it Yeah, thing is, SL actually uses CTRL-ALT-arrows for its own purposes, and naturally we really want SL to work properly too. From: Fuzzy Bowman (oh, is it just me or does everyone now get the IM window all over the place instead of being the same size/position it used to be?) That's a glitch that affects all of yesterday's versions - I'm informed it's fixed in the next update which should be out really soon!

I have problems clicking on HUD items that are close to the screen bottom (about where the chat bar is going to appear). Is that Linux specific or does that happen on windows, too?

Can I have the previous release back please?

Linux Distribution: Debian AMD-64, (but run in 32 bit chroot) Desktop Environment: fvwm window manager Kernel: Linux Pulsar 2.6.17.8 #3 SMP Thu Aug 17 21:04:23 CDT 2006 x86_64 GNU/Linux X version: X.Org version: 7.0.0 OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc. OpenGL renderer string: RADEON XPRESS Series Generic OpenGL version string: 2.0.6011 (8.28. ATI Radeon Xpress 1100, 128MB allocated to video card model name : AMD Turion(tm) 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-50 cpu MHz : 1596.088 cache size : 256 KB 1928980KB ram, 2008116KB swap Cut and Paste: I can cut and paste from second life to another program, but not from another program to second life. Key repeat rate and delay is way too slow, see xset for how to get the current rates to match that of the X server. The alt and control handling is completely broken for me in this release. How about making the new code optional? Pressing control or alt causes second life to pop-up above other programs. It's the window manager's job to change stacking order. Pressing control or alt causes the mouse to jump into the second life window if it was outside of it. Alt-left mouse drag, causes the camera to pick random locations around the periphery at the maximum distance. Control-Alt-left mouse drag seems to flash randomly around at the current distance. Frame rate is in the 5-6 fps range walking around the Isabel 39,112,57 Infohub, it doesn't seem matter much at all if I disable trees, grass, clouds, and fog or not. I don't think performance changed from the last release.

From: SpacedOut Frye Cut and Paste: I can cut and paste from second life to another program, but not from another program to second life.
My middle mouse isn't working for paste either. Oddly the CTRL-V hotkey appears to paste just fine, but I was required to similarly use a hotkey to copy from the X app. *shrug*

From: Darkside Eldrich The worst part, for me, is that emacs doesn't use the "into SL" buffer at all, so I have to copy text to a "middle man" program to get it into SL at all... frustrating. What if you use the editor from a terminal and use the terminal's Copy? Been using gnome-terminal at the moment as it seems to fairly consistent in getting stuff to/from SL so far.

From: Darkside Eldrich X11 has 3 clipboard buffers: http://www.jwz.org/doc/x-cut-and-paste.htmlFor some reason, SL seems to be using SECONDARY... I thought it was CLIPBOARD, so I told emacs to copy to it, and I still can't copy into SL from there. Thanks for the query. Technical details ahoy...SL strictly uses the standard CLIPBOARD for copy and pastes, using ^C and ^V. When doing a ^C copy in SL, SL also copies into PRIMARY for user convenience, like Firefox does (this may be confusing you, so maybe it'll stop), and CUT_BUFFER0 (if the text is not UTF as a bonus only to appease Emacs. At no point does it interact with SECONDARY. Emacs is predominantly interested in the long-obsolete CUT_BUFFER mechanism; middle-mousebutton pasting from SL into Emacs should work as long as the source is not UTF8 (cutbuffers shouldn't contain UTF8, though Emacs itself doesn't care).

From: Major Senior My middle mouse isn't working for paste either. We don't support middle-mousebutton pasting into SL widgets (or implicit 'copy'ing upon selection) and aren't likely to in the near future - SL's widget set just doesn't work in that paradigm.

From: someone 1. Copy text1 in App, paste into SL. You get text1. 2. Copy text2 in SL, paste into App. You get text2. 3. Paste into SL, you get text1. This would be a bug, unless App is reclaiming the clipboard constantly (in which case it's still a bug, but not ours ). What is 'App' in this case?

Cut buffers? CUT BUFFERS? *shudder* The page I linked earlier ( http://www.jwz.org/doc/x-cut-and-paste.html) seemed to imply that emacs used PRIMARY, not CUT_BUFFER0... annoying to find this is not the case. I added a hook in emacs to put cut/copied text into CLIPBOARD, and it works in other apps, but still not SL. My attempts at seamless emacs<->SL integration continue... From: Tofu Linden This would be a bug, unless App is reclaiming the clipboard constantly (in which case it's still a bug, but not ours ). What is 'App' in this case? Mozilla Firefox. But that was in 1.12.1.52222; I can't reproduce it in 1.12.1.8. Also, my original post seems to have disappeared, at least for me. Odd. EDIT: I fixed copying from graphical emacs into SL. For other emacs users, here's the scoop: apparently, x-select-enable-clipboard doesn't work correctly. You need to use the program autocutsel, which synchronizes CUT_BUFFER0 with CLIPBOARD. Sure, it's gonna slow you down, but that won't matter unless you're doing remote X stuff. Anyway, get autocutsel, run it in the background at X startup. Now everything works beautifully. FURTHER EDIT: autocutsel only works until the first time you copy/paste something from a program that isn't emacs. After that, it doesn't seem to pick up the emacs copy/pastes any more... peculiar. Restarting autocutsel and emacs doesn't help... you have to restart SL to fix it, as far as I can tell. Any idea why this might be happening?
