I just checked the Preview grid (boy, is that a mess! Half the regular preview sims aren't up, and the map's lagging because of it). Anyway, release notes from the archive: Release Notes for Second Life 1.12.1 (linux-51916) September 2, 2006 ===================================== Linux client fixes: * Cut & Paste is not supported * Cannot Alt Zoom (or Ctrl Drag) * Stop the client logging to syslog * Crash when switching from fullscreen mode * sometimes hang or crash on linux client shutdown * Key repeating not working correctly * Lots of 'Failed to set locale en_US.iso8859-1' warnings * "$L" not appearing before Linden $$ balance in upper right corner of the scree n. * bundled libboost version 1.33.1 causes problems for many users * libdb-3.2 dependency now bundled Cut and paste and exit hang fixes verified. I'm still getting some logging to syslog, but it's not as bad. Here's the full portion of my time in Preview: Sep 3 11:37:07 localhost secondlife-bin: WARNING: LLDir_Linux not fully implemented! Sep 3 11:37:07 localhost secondlife-bin: INFO: QUEUED THREAD STARTING Sep 3 11:37:07 localhost last message repeated 3 times Sep 3 11:37:26 localhost secondlife-bin: WARNING: LLDir_Linux not fully implemented! That's much better over all the console log being sent to the syslog. Worth an article.

It's Like A Dream

Worked great for me. I could not think of any more tests to do. I have sound, I have Cut & Paste, I switched in and out of fullscreen mode, did not hang on exit. Cut and Paste even puts it in the X Paste buffer, and pulls from it too. Snapshot did upload a snapshot into my inventory. Still have "WARNING: Failed to set locale en_US.utf8", but this does not particularly bother me. Just as a note, the only time the Linux client has crashed on me was during the Octtree (?) thing, so I am thrilled to bits to have all the features I have been missing from the Windows client and can stop rebooting on Wednesday. Slight problem in 1152x864 fullscreen mode on ATI Radeon 9600SE card, but I really done care. (UI is beyond lower right side of screen.) I have submitted a bug report on that. I am unclear as to whether it is useful for others to check it and see if it happens on other ATI's or NVIDIA's.

no upload/download of textures/snapshots yet
09-04-2006 08:50
This is the ONLY thing that I still miss in the Alpha, really Nice to have, but as far as I am concerned it can wait until Beta, would be movies... But with some of our people being builders and clothing designers, I think upload/download of textures would be SO great to have! I have Hover Tips on all items turned on, but it doesn't seem to work thatr well - I see no tips Other than that, I am Really Impressed! Fantastic Work, Tofu & LL The Chat and History windows get restored EXACTLY as I left them when I logged out, too!

can't log in
09-04-2006 11:39
I'm getting a download prompt when I try to login 51916, and it exits w/ nothing happening.
I see something about passing --grid on that preview page, but no further info. Tried --grid preview and --grid=preview to no avail? ( the client's help log doesn't mention --grid either )

snapshot to email not working?
09-04-2006 11:48
I sent myself a snapshot by email, and it didn't arrive. But as far as I can recall, snapshot to email doesn't work on preview anyway So I guess I will have to try it again on Wednesday, when it's up on the main grid.

This build has random texture tiles disappearing/reappearing when you flying around. Anyone else getting that?

Sucks having to try to re-position the camera after using them back to normal position.. I usually tap PgDown for a bit, which resets the camera back to the behind-the-bod view.

Maybe we can get a backport of this feature and the closing hang fix?

Don did not exclude this possibilty completely - but it's integrated in the buggy preview client; it may be too resource consuming to dig those bits out It would be FANTASTIC, though! On the other hand, maybe this gives Tofu a chance to build in things like File Upload / Save to Disk before the next release? And Ripple Water And AVP And the other Cool Graphics Features that are still greyed out

Way to go Tofu! And keep it up! No reason not to keep right on going once the deficiencies are managed and make the native Linux client even better than the Windows one....

It seems our Preview is out of date - I wonder if our new preview client wil have still MORE features?
