[Mandriva 2008.0] Can't login because of missing Agreement window

Hi,

I juste have installed SL on my Mandriva. Everything seems to be ok.

./secondlife

a windows, with the login page.

and the problem start. The loading stalled at the moment where it would have the agreement pop up window. But there's no window. So i can't loggin

Some one could help me ?

I didn't know there WAS an agreement popup window!

Take a look at ~/.secondlife/logs/secondlife.log and see if there's anything in there that could point you to the cause of your problem. If not, post it here - it likely won't be all that long.

I will check the log.

But this window is only for the first application run (on a real winXP for instance)

Edit : log Check, i don't have seen nothing but i'm not an expert

I found this workaround at the jira:

add 127.0.0.1 secondlife.com to /etc/hosts

That would redirect everything wanting to access secondlife.com to your own PC.
After first successful login, this workaround shouldn't be needed anymore and you can remove it again. Actually you should, to be able to access secondlife websites ^^;

But unfortunately it's not exactly the same issue.

On the Jira the Term of Service Agreement window pop but not load unlike mine that never pop.

This sounds like a browser issue of some kind, since the viewer uses a stripped-down Mozilla browser for its html elements. Unfortunately, I can't offer much help there.

One workaround I've seen is to install SL on a Windows machine, log in, accept the TOS agreement, then log out and use your Linux install normally. Obviously this is not an ideal workaround, and most Linux SL players seem to have no issue with this, so we need to figure out what is deficient on your setup.

One of the first things I noticed when I looked over your logs is that you are using a rather dated Linux kernel. Linux 2.6.22-19 was released nearly two years ago. This may not seem like a long time ago, but in Linux terms, two years is an eternity. In Ubuntu terms, this was back in the days of Feisty Fawn. Further, you appear to be running the server version of that kernel rather than a generic or desktop version. Since your kernel is highly outdated, I have to assume the rest of your install is not up to snuff either.

You could probably update to one of the recent kernels (I believe Mandriva is up to 2.6.28, but given the age of your install, you might be better off doing a fresh install of the latest Mandriva download (currently Mandriva 2009 Spring). At any rate, updating your system will likely fix your viewer problem.

I don't have think to this issue, but it sounds good to me. I bet you're right about my "old" kernel.

Unfortunately it's also my working machine and i can't upgrade it. I've to admit that i will not play when i'm in mission away from my home
