My wife and I have recently started entertaining ourselves in SL, she's running Ubuntu 5.10 and has had no issues in the week or so we've been playing other than a lack of sound. At least up until .34 was released. When she launches SL it says "There's a new update available" and then it has 2 options, either download or quit. When she clicks download it closes to desktop and nothing else ever happens. When she selects quit, it obviously closes out and quits. I have heard many people saying that it's an optional update, but we can't figure out how to make it optional for her. Our last resort is to install wine, this is the only non-native linux game she'd be using though so she's hesitant to bother with it. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.

There is no update for Linux yet;
This download only works for Windows and Mac (for Linux you have to download from the web page and do a manual install); The current relase should be OK still, so do not choose to upgrade (unless they banned the old 1.10 version); The Linux Client is a bit flaky - I hope the new release on Wedesday gives some relief. Does that help you? _____________________

I've got wine installed mainly for SL, and had no problems with installing wine, or SL in wine. Granted, I'm on PCLinuxOS, not Ubuntu, but they're fairly similar distros for ease of use. Giving wine a shot might not be a bad idea, just, ya know, don't change your AV's clothes, cos there's an alpha channel bug, which does odd things.

THe Auto-Update functionality does not work on Linux yet, whether there's an updated version available or not. The latest update was marked "Optional", so you should be able to get on with the latest Linux client available from the download website.
If the client does not let you in, I suggest writing a bug report to support@lindenlab.com to have it fixed. As I take it, the .34 update on windows made things considerably worse, so I suggest updateing the WINE client in a separate folder first, before destroying your .32 installation ![]() _____________________
