Disabling mandatory client upgrade requirement

This is mainly in regard to the latest RC viewers not backing off CPU usage when not focused.

I am wondering if there is a way to disable the forced version upgrade check, including the SL one, that mandates using a newer RC viewer over the better CPU behaved SLim client.

As of yesterday this client pops up a mandatory upgrade notice, and the RC client is no way as CPU friendly as the older SLim client.

Can you still somehow run the older client?

Simple thing, just define a channel to use when you start the viewer. Something like "--channel "ThirdLife" to the commandline or shortcut.

I tried this and no luck, I get a parsing error no matter the permutations of the --channel modifier I try.

You need to put these into gridargs.dat exactly as I wrote like this (this is from Cool Viewer, with the additional --settings you can specify separate user settings if you have for instance different versions in parallel):
--settings settings_1.22.xml --channel "Cool Viewer"

That worked perfectly, thanks so much... now if we could only get the sleeping behavior of the official release candidates fixed :)
