Linking SLURL's with Firefox

Hello all,

Now the search in secondlife is disabled (very annoying!) I am trying to do searches throug the internet. Several websites (slexchange.com, slquery.com) use SLURL to link directly into secondlife. Only Firefox in Linux doesn't seem to support this. I keep getting the message: "Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (secondlife) isn't associated with any program".

Is there a way to tell Firefox to link this protocol to secondlife?

Yes, there is. I remember discussing this in these Forums, so there should be at least one thread on the topic, with posts by me in it, but I am unable to find any such in Search. Neither can I find it by browsing my Subscribed Threads list. ::sigh:: However, there is a caviat emptor involved: The hacks involved creating a new instance of the Second Life viewer, which --last time I checked-- was unable to tell the existing viewer instance to teleport. Instead, it logged you in at the new location with the new viewer, which caused the grid to log you out of the old viewer without exiting it.

We all love secondlife so much and were afraid that the magic will end, nothing this good can ever last…. can it?

This behaviour, that Llauren mentioned, ssems to be like that for me in Windows too.

Best is, logout before clicking on an SL Url.

In this thread is the solution for Firefox and one for Opera.

It is NOT 100% clean, but very handy - using the modified command line in the secondlife script seems to block command line options, like "--aditi" - I put those in manually in the Preview script.
