can I run SL with ubuntu linix?
I'm new to linix but can seem to get SL to load up, could some please tell me if this will even work and if not what does and then the procedure to load up SL using ubuntu, I really don't want to go back to windows please help.

Yes you can run it on Ubuntu, just unzip the folder and run the file named "secondlife" (not the icon).

You need to install the restricted video drivers. I did, and many of my 3d progs started working, including Beryl.

Okay - to run SL you need to have hardware acceleration enabled. This means you have to be using the Nvidia or ATI restricted drivers. In 7.04 the Restricted Driver Manager will set those up for you.
Performance depends on the system - SL really beats my work laptop up (Inspiron D800), but my workstation runs beautifully.
To check if your hardware acceleration is enabled, run glxinfo in a terminal window.
