Windows Client + Wine = Empty SL Window

Hi everyone... I had been getting along alright running the Windows SecondLife client under Wine 0.9.13... up until the last update. I have to run winecfg and set it to Win98 emulation in order to get SL to install. After installation is complete I run winecfg again and set it to WinXP before running SL.

This last time I forgot to change it back to WinXP before running the client... it ran alright for a little bit, then it crashed.. hard.. (took down the whole system.. I couldn't even switch over to the console [CTL+ALT+F1].. I had to hard reboot).

Once it was done rebooting, I ran winecfg, set it to WinXP, then tried running SecondLife. The SL window appears, but the only thing that draws is the window border.. the contents inside the window border are empty (not even black.. it just shows whatever was under the window when it was created. If I drag the window around, it looks like I'm dragging a snapshot/chunk of my desktop in the window).

I've tried running various configuration changes in winecfg and restarting SL, plus rebooting the computer.. I just can't get it to work right. I deleted the entire SL directory and settings files out of Wine, then reinstalled it.. but to no avail.. I get the same empty window.

I'm running SuSE 10.0 on a 1ghz AMD T-Bird.. 512 MB RAM. Video card is an NVidia GeForce FX 5500. I have all the latest updates (kernel, etc).. except for the video card, which I haven't ever run an update on (I just use the default NVidia driver that SuSE 10.0 installed.. I'm afraid I'll inadvertently lose 3D acceleration if I mess with the driver).

Any ideas/suggestions?

Update all the way to Wine 0.9.15 if you can, and remove your ~/.wine directory. Then reinstall SL properly.

Hey thanks.. I'll give it a shot. Though I must say I'm not crazy about the idea of reinstalling Wine. I have my Windows development tools already installed and setup (such as LCC and EditPlus 2). I don't want to lose these sections of the Wine installation.

I guess I'll start with the Wine update, then see where I can go from there if that doesn't fix it.

Thanks again.
