Is there a linux program like poser which can be used to make SL anims? If not, how well does poser run in Wine? Reasonably so, or so badly as to make it worth creating a windows partition just for poser? I've googled every set of search terms I could think of, and searched this forum, and gotten no useful hits, so, help, please!

There's also Blender. More powerful, impossible to use (for the likes of me, at least). I hear it's BVH files don't *quite* work in SL, but you could open them in avimator and them save them, I think...

AVImator needs a patch for Linux. I forget if it's up there or on the forums here.

The avimator binary runs fine for most Linux distros. I had trouble running it in gentoo without a little hack, which is documented on the Avimator forums.
*Compiling* Avimator 0.4 in Linux needs a patch, though, or at least it did for me. I posted a patch for that on the Avimator dev forums.

My own Posemaker runs fine in Linux, and it's free now. It was the original user-created SL anim editor. Just hit google, it'll pop up.

Blender is pretty nice and free which is always a major plus. Yeah, its BVH files don't quite work...but you can get it to work. Its biggest plus is that it is so powerful...if you can learn to use it you have QUITE a powerful tool in your arsenal

Poser doesn't run at all in wine

Poser doesn't run at all in wine. Wine has some serious bugs in it htat prevents it from running any programs that use GL viewports. So Its going to be a long time before that becomes available and such programs will probably have performance issues.

From: Elishia Winnfield Poser doesn't run at all in wine. For most users, Poser is probably overkill anyway, unless your really getting into character animation you can probably get along fine with free software. (If your serious enough to buy Poser, then your serious enough not to care what OS you run it on).

Posemaker natively supports SL poses. It's pretty nice that way.
Too bad my server has decided to blow up... Hopefully it'll be back online soon.

Any word on when the server will be back up, Solar? I'd love to give Posemaker a spin, as would my wife. -Bones
