Automatic updates

No idea if the SecondLife auto-update for Linux works yet (I haven't attempted to use it in so long ....). Anyway, the slupdate in slutils was fixed to handle the new (and the old) directory naming. Alas, I wasn't able to update it on SecondTux yet, so if you guys use it still, its available on http://lepercolony.ocgnet.org/wiki/slutils

Wow, first try was interesting, ended up in a watery void. :-)

Second try worked it seems.

This one is comparable in performance to the Windows version for me, and I didn't even need to make a bunch of symlinks to libraries. So I'm quite ahppy with this version. Mind you, I only tried this one and the last one, and the last one apparently had quite severe gotchas. The packet loss I was getting was huge, but I thought that was just SecondLife in general.

So who do I pay off to get libstdc++ 3.4 bundled?

Or remove the 3.4 dependency. I do have libstdc++ installed, and the client worked fine 2 weeks ago (before I went on vacation).

Dominic, what is your distro and what "gcc -v" reports?

SuSE 9.1 (I know it's outdated, I can't update due to some other dependencies).

Makin` Progress!

Good work. I have only a few release-specific problems that I`ve identified so far:
  1. I still needed to add libSDL-1.2.so.0 from a previous install.
  2. Logging in tells me that there is an optional update 1.12.1.9 available [it isn`t].
  3. Objects with scripted movement tend to update irregularly [probably not Linux-specific].
  4. Other UI elements are stealing focus from the Chat Bar again [definitely not Linux-specific].
  5. Alt-Tab no longer works to LEAVE Second Life.
  6. I can no longer access the Alt-F3 window menu [click on the icon in the left end of the title bar] from the keyboard shortcut. This makes restoring the Window Border difficult, as the icon is not *there* when the window is borderless.
  7. I can also confirm that pressing Alt [I don`t remember about Ctrl] with the pointer placed outside the window improperly moves the mouse pointer [at least when SL is the active window; I don`t recall what it does when something ELSE is active].
Some things that I`ve noticed working RIGHT:
  1. Textures now download much faster.
  2. The Presence Server seems to be much more reliable.
I have not yet tested the clipboard features, so I cannot comment on them, but if they work as advertized [and I expect that they do] then I expect to be making HEAVY use of them. :)

Do the new texture-loading speed-ups affect initial loading of ambient sounds any? It`d be cool if they loaded sounds sooner on first use, too! Even if they don`t, I`m pleased to be able to *hear* sounds at all!

Over all, despite the humongous mess that this "upgrade" was, I think that you`re moving in the right general direction, even if it isn`t as quickly as we impatient residents would prefer.
