Worked Great, Except Not Working Now

The 1.8.4.7 version was working pretty well, generally on SuSE 10 (and also the Windows version using Wine)... But when I try to log in now, it says I need to upgrade the version.. I don't see any upgraded version to download.. Too bad..

The biggest problems were with coloring the skin/hair.. It doesn't seem to work right. I can only get a few base colors and only for all my hair and facial skin together.

But Second Life is fun... nevertheless..

All known issues, with workarounds in other threads, except for there not being a working version to upgrade to. :( The Linux client is dead until they drop us a 1.9-compatible build.

The 1.9 version is not up yet, and the old version does not work with 1.9.

As for the rest: it CAN work. Look at other threads in this forum, there is a lot of experience here.

Roll On 1.9! Though they MAY be waiting to see if the 1.9.0.15 is OK, or a new update is required, before generating/releasing the Linux Alpha again.

Doubt it. It they could build it, they would have. (its not like a less than perfect client has ever stopped them before - on any OS)

Very True! They do it with windows all the time :p , have a look at the SL Technical Issue thread as it is now...

My post was badly formulated, sorry: I meant to say, that the the people who would do the build are nervously haunting the 1.9 client, and very closely watching how stable 1.9.0.15 is, and will only get around to our Alpha when they have time to look away from what looks like a Very Different Release, whether it is buggy or not.

A lot of people are nervous about 1.9, and the behaviour seems to be different enough that the "features" cannot easily be distinguished from the "bugs"

I expect a new, critical, SL windows client to appear before we get our alpha back. I can imagine that the developers have all been chained to their desks for the meantime :D

I have even read on the forums that sending an IM with a certain content will OFTEN crash the entire sim that the sender is on...

I am prepared to wait for the dust to settle. And EVEN go to the SL Linux meeting on Saturday using wine :(

Ideally, of course, we should be allowed to crash sims from the Linux Alpha Client :D

I think the problem is they don't have any actual dedicated client Linux developers working for them, so the Linux native builds wait on Icculus to fix issues and the others just run the build scripts when they get a chance.
