I tried for many hours getting SLvoice to work on my Ubuntu install... After using 2 different work arounds, and actually getting SLvoice to launch in the background when enable it in SL (had to use the SLVoice.bin rename and custom launch script work around, and a work-around fix for vivox detecting processors wrong), now SL voice just wont work cuz it says my device is already in use. I tried the downgrade from pulseaudio back to esound, but that didnt work either.... the only "solution" i found is to have a different audio device for SLvoice than for normal SL sound... which is an absurd requirement, I shouldn't have to have 2 sound cards to run this. I can run SL sound, and many other sound apps all at once, with no issues.. yes SLvoice cant figure it out, its like its programmed so bad it tries to grab exclusive control over the sound device.. which is idiotic to even think to program it that way when its made to use with another program that also uses sound.
Does anyone know anything I can do besides having to add new hardware (like a sound card or USB headset) to get SLvoice to work along with normal SL sounds.... or am i screwed until vivox learns to program?
I don't mind using my Mac for SLvoice sometimes, but its a much lower end system than my desktop... and I'd rather just not use voice at all than install Windows.

I'm having the same trouble. I tried all the "readme" work arounds, nothing works. then I followed advice from friends who know better than I, still no luck.

I think its just something thats not going to work til more updates and its looked at close if we are using a Distro thats needing PulseAudio... the repositories let you go back to esound, but it wont work right on my system at all, it just ends up locking up most all of gnome and screwing up my whole X session if I don't have Pulse going...
As slow as LL adds support for things... and even slower Vivox, I wouldnt expect them to even consider PulseAudio as exiting for many many more months....
There are some known bugs in Pulse and the esound compat lib for Pulse that cause problems... hopefully if those ever get fixed, maybe its the same issues thats happening in SL

well i got past all the problems about needing multiple sound cards, but no idea why it still wont work.
anyone have any ideas that might help?
I can run Pulse volume control thingy and see all the streams that are running... when I launch SL i can see the stream added that is the sound for SL. Before logging in if i go to preferences, voice chat, and go to device settings where you can test your mic and volume slider... IT WORKS! .... it works fine, and i see the extra stream added on for it. as soon as i log all the way into SL though, if i try to enable voice, for a millisecond i can see a flash up on the list of streams like it tried to launch, then just.... gone... and the icon on local chat stays yellow.. no messages ever like its trying to connect...
Have tried with my firewall disabled on the machine, and the right ports open on the router/firewall ... also have a Windows and a OSX machine that work fine connecting here through the same router.
