The latest RC (1.20.6.86925) seems to be one of the less reliable of recent times.

After turning me into a whirling dervish after I hit the right arrow key to turn, locking out my menus but not, for some reason, my keyboard (I could send and receive local chat, e.g.), I was able to quit cleanly via CTRL+Q.

Then when I came back, I found huge swaths of land including two plots I own and many of my neighbors were utterly black. But they were surrounded by and even crossed by perfectly normal terrain. All objects and avatars, including water within the terrain, rendered normally.

Has anybody seen this? I'm on openSUSE 10.3 (kernel 2.6.22) with an nVidia 8600GT and version 169.12 of the nVidia driver.

On the openSUSE mailing list, someone said that there are bugs in the current nVidia driver that manifest with a dual-core CPU (I have a Core 2 Duo). Does anyone know anything about this? SL is by far the most used 3D app for me, but I use Google Earth, too, plus Celestia and Stelarium, and none of them have ever acted up with either this card or the 7300 I recently replaced.
