Well, 1.10.0.34 is out fixing some bugs and such... but no Linux alpha update yet. Lets keep our fingers crossed! Maybe we'll be able to use the alpha client again in time for the weekend.

I'm doing some posts in the Mac area which I have a few Mac-using friends. Some were shocked to find out that we couldn't log in ether. No word from Brent Linden.

1.10.34 is an optional release.. Just say no when it asks to download, and its smooth sailing.

Yeah, however our desire for it is driven by the current alpha client being nonfunctional in any meaningful way... not just for fun or for the option. I'd love to be able to use the alpha client again.

Weird.. I'm in SL right now with the alpha client.. as long as stick to places that arent really complex, I'm good. In my home sim, I spent one night on with the current release for like 24 hours straight.. I might have had one crash during that time.

So.. find as isolated sim that's not too busy prim-wise (Parrot Island is a good example) and you can code/build/whatever for a long time.

That's if you are talking about the crashing problem. If you have another problem, then I cant help you there.

I guess it depends on your definition of useable. To me, if I have to constantly be aware of where I am or what is going on around me or where I can go... that's not useable. I did however just try creating a box, putting myself in it, then loggging in with the alpha client and I crashed as soon as I turned to look at another bland wall of the bland box.

That's cause occlusion is part of the problem :) Making a box will only make the problem worse.. When I turned off occlusion things got better, not worse for me.

And.. frankly.. having to be careful is better than using wine.. my poor machine desnt do well, and I'm lucky to get 10 fps at 500m with WINE.

Turning off occlusion sadly had no effect on me. I get only slightly worse performance via WINE than with the alpha client (generally in the mid-upper 20s with WINE). They real issue for me is the problem with alpha channels.

OC can't be toggled, for me. Weird. It works under WINE.

Looks like it is something bigger than just a few out-of-date drivers?
