Hi! We just created a PBI (Push Button Installer) of Second Life for PC-BSD, the desktop version of the FreeBSD operating system. The PC-BSD 1.4 BETA can be downloaded here as an iso or torrent: http://pcbsd.org/?p=download14There are 2 CD's, but the second is optional. Once PC-BSD is installed, download and double click the Second Life PBI and it auto-extracts and installs, placing an icon on the desktop. http://dev.pcbsd.org/pbi/SecondLife1.18.0.6-PV02.pbiWe'll probably re-compile the viewer for FreeBSD native later and create a new PBI at some point. The cool thing is that the PC-BSD PBI system has a method for detecting updates, so as we make new versions with the latest viewer, it'll automatically prompt for download. Cheers, Syn Division

That's awesome. I hadn't used freebsd in forever and while I had heard of PCBSD I never went to check it out; until I read your post that is. I was surprised to find nvidia drivers offered as a package too. I will give this all a try out shortly with secondlife. Thanks!

Yay! With the PC-BSD 1.4 BETA, we've got the Nvidia drivers automatically loading if you choose them from the xorg graphical configuration utility after installation. The Beryl control utility is loaded by default too (but not activated, in case of Beryl problems). So, if 3D works from the Nvidia driver initially, the Second Life PBI should just work, too -syn
