Conflict with Java plugins / Mozilla

From Known Issues:

'If you're seeing this error on startup: "INTERNAL ERROR on Browser End: JavaPluginFactory5 init - no agent?":
Our embedded Mozilla scans for an existing Firefox/Mozilla's plugins (I'd rather it didn't...) and for some reason hates some versions of the Java plugin. A workaround is to delete the java plugin from firefox/mozilla, though that's obviously pretty kludgey.'

I'm not getting exactly the same error, but it's similar:

"INTERNAL ERROR on Browser End: Could not get the plugin manager"

and I do have the Sun Java plugin installed, so I suspect it's that. I can't just delete it, though, I need it for other stuff I'm doing! Is there any way of bypassing the scanning-for-plugins stage? Or any other workarounds anybody can think of? I'd be very grateful for any suggestions.

Thanks!

If you don't need the embedded browser, you might consider building from source. Then you won't have the embedded browser anyway. https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Compiling_the_viewer_%28Linux%29

This issue persists to this day in the Linux client.

I have to patch the startup script to temporarily remove the java plugin when starting up.

Could the embedded mozilla be patched to auto-skip the oji plugin?

If not can the code be fixed to not crash?

It's been like 18 months with this bug.

Thanks
