I've seen the previous posts about using "--aditi" to get the alpha client to connect to the beta grid, but I can't get it to work with 1_16_0_6

Has anyone managed it? I'm not a complete linux noob, but trying "./secondlife --aditi " just gets me the usual login page, and the live grid.

I can't see --aditi listed anywhere as an option . Is it possible to use the "-login <uri>" option to specify logging into the betagrid? or am I just being thick :)

I tried connecting with the 1_16_0_4 aditi client, but it says "new version required, 1_16_0_5". . .but that's not on the download page!!

Can you please post here the content of the file

SecondLife_i686_1_16_0_4/gridargs.dat

from your beta client directory?

OK, will do, but I'm back home right now, haven't currently got a linux box running here, so when I'm back in work tommorow I'll re-unpack the 04 version and post that file.

OK, here's the contents of the gridargs.dat file from the 04 directory (still had it in the trash so didn't need to unpack again :) )

"-settings settings_beta.xml --aditi -helperuri http://preview-aditi.secondlife.com/helpers/"

EDIT: I just tried copying the gridargs.dat from 04 over the 06's file (that file is empty on my system...),, but it's still going to the live login page. :(

When I ran it again just now (from a console), I scrolled back up the output and spotted:
"2007-06-01T08:20:54Z INFO: LLUserAuth::authenticate: uri=https://login.aditi.lindenlab.com/cgi-bin/login.cgi"

so it looks like it's trying ..but it crashes.
I've looked through the whole log file, and it's getting as far as being logged in from the look of it, it's savng the screen_last.bmp in my profile folder, and when I view it offline it's showing my last location on the beta grid.
OOOh!! I logged onto the betagrid with another (windows) client , made a change to an object in my view, logged off, then logged back on with the linux 06 client, not only did it show the last change, but it stayed logged in :)
Got some horrible flashing blue square texture problem tho, but at least it's in!

I think maybe there was some temporary problem, either SL based or between my host and their servers just at the particular time I tried to connect, as each time I've tried it since posting the reply earlier, it's connected fine.

It's (SL) managed to hard lock the PC a couple of times so far tho, but hey, it's an alpha!

Check your hardware and especially video drivers. If you get a hard lockup there's something wrong. I've never once gotten a hard lockup since I've been running SL starting in March. The worst thing SL can do is crash itself, thus requiring you to restart the program. However, a buggy video driver or bad hardware can cause hard lockups.

Yeh,sorry, I didn't mean to imply it was soley SL's fault.

I'm running KDE & Beryl , on an x86_64 Athlon with 64Bit Fedora 6,vid card is only a plain Geforce 6800, 128Mb RAM (on the vid card, not the PC!!) most of the time it's stable, but every so often...it hangs, usually when there's an OpenGL screensaver on the go. I think it's not mr stability right now, but Beryl looks nice (and actually is a bonus when I'm working on the machine daily).

It's no biggy right now, as our internet connection at work is slooow (hopefully getting it upgraded to a 2Mb leased line in the next few months), it's just nice to have a play with some scripting on lunch break to 'relax'.
