When trying to run 1.12.1.13, I keep getting an error msg about ibstdc++.so.6. I'd swear I saw this mentioned elsewhere in the forum, but when I search for libstdc, the only result is my own mention of the error in my post asking about libalphafy. So, help, please! What do I need to do to make SL work?

I had the same error

I managed to locate the file and stuck it in /usr/lib. That solved my problem.

I ended up having to grab libstdc++.so.6.1 from openoffice, copy it into /usr/lib, and edit the file name to ibstdc++.so.6. But it works now! I have sound! I am gleeful! (I hadn't logged in for like a month or 6 weeks. There was no sound last time I played!)

I think it would be more sensible to put it in the lib directory of SL rather than your system /usr/lib directory, otherwise you risk breaking your whole Linux install.

Why would this break the install? All the previous versions of libstdc that other programs might depend on are still there to be used. And I've restarted several times since doing this (was messing with hardware, so had to shut down) and my install is unbroken.

It probably won't ;) I just prefer keeping the system-installed libraries in /usr/lib and any user installed libraries seperate: in the app directory, or in /usr/local/lib.. I think it is generally not considered a Good Thing to install non-distro installed libraries to /usr/lib but, of course, it is up to you :)

If you are running a 64bit linux you would prefer to have all your secondlife 32bit libs inside /secondlife/lib to reduce mess =D
