I was just pondering starting an in-world Linux Alpha Users group, as the regular Linux Users group has a lot of people who are only in it for the theoretics, and I'm not sure how many of them are actually going to alpha testers. Does anything think it would be helpful as a way to discuss the alpha client in world, or should we just stick with the Linux Users group? Comments? Monkeys? Pie?
Edit: Unless I'm the only alpha tester. So quiet! (Yes, I know we just got the email like 15 minutes ago.)

I'll join the Alpha-LUG Linux-client installed, logged in and it WORKS fps between 28 and 38 - it's great (ok it is a sim without much activity) but I never got more than 5-6 thru wine. This could be a long night

Excellent, Grim! I just started another thread here about performance, that's good to hear! I got between 15-50 on WINE depending on where I was and whatnot, but generally 15-20 was normal. I'm fixing to head home and download the alpha client.

I've sent out invitations to the Linux Client Users group to everyone I've seen post on this forum as of now, if I missed you or you posted afterwards you can IM me for an invite if I don't see you first.

I would like to participate in that...I am running the linux client as well, and would like to keep up to date, and discuss the activities.

Count me in. I'm still new to Linux and need all the help I can get in general. If SL starts working in Linux, though, another reason to stay with Windows will have been eliminated.

I hesitate to do a "me three" post, but I'd like to be added to a potential SL-Linux group also.. Its good to see LL finally getting in gear on getting us a Linux client.. I've been in-world since Jun '05, and have heard "real soon now" on a Linux client from the beginning.. I still run Windows dualboot with Mandrake 10/FC3 mainly because I don't care to fiddle with Wine for the few remaining Winblowz apps I need to run, and a good workable SL Linux client would put me MUCH closer to removing the dual-boot situation I'm stuck with right now...
Tas
BTW: How DOES one get a copy of this wonderful Linux client??
