I'd really appreciate any help you can offer me with this noob problem. I am using SecondLife_i686_1_13_0_2 on FC6 amd64 . I installed new nvidia drivers and this allowed me to create the window. The SL window is very attractive ! How encouraging ! But It would not accept my login ! BLAH The progress bar gets to about 20% and then I get a message saying that I have entered the wrong password. I tried: -->> iptables -F And redirected ports listed below from my router to my box. 12035,12036,13000-50,443 This did not help. I logged back into the website and verified my username and password, then even tried resetting my password and there is not a change in behaivor. I even logged back out of the website and then logged back in ! geeeezzz ! What could be causing this problem? My account is NEW. I have NEVER used SL. Do i first need to use a windows or mac client to login for hte first time? Is there something I am missing? Thank you for any insight ! Tinkerding aka John

Hi Thinkerding! Unless you are testing on the 'beta' grid (which your account isn't old enough to do), you need to be using SL version 1.12.3.6 which you can get from: http://secondlife.com/community/linux-alpha.php

Hi Tofu ! Thanks ! Oh rats ! I can't use 1.13. Oh well. Prehaps in the future, the error output of the client could include this in it's login failure message. Is it a matter of days to let the servers sync the member directory or is it a seniority privilage that will take weeks? Thanks, Thinkerding

Is it a matter of days to let the servers sync the member directory or is it a seniority privilage that will take weeks?Neither. It`s a matter of when they copied the main grid`s data over to the beta-testing grid. Your account was created after the snapshot, so was not included in the snapshot. You have to wait for the next snapshot before you can participate on the beta grid. That`s all.

can't login or says i must update

I can not get the linux version of the sl client to work. I have never used my account with windows or mac. I've just created it on the website and can log in and out of the website without difficulty. I probably need a command line option or env var It reports authentication Failure (and says to check caps lock) unless I use SecondLife_i686_1_12_3_6 and start it with ./secondlife --aditi However then it raises a dialog that says "A new version of Secondlife is availabe. You must download this update to use the system. Download to your application folder?" DOWLOAD / QUIT QUIT just quits DOWNLOAD brings up another dialog that automatic downloading is unsupported by the linux client and to go to the website then quits. Version SecondLife_i686_1_13_0_2 reports authentication failure with and without --aditi
What am I doing wrong? Is it possible that i need to log in first with another client to initalize the account? I checked through the lastrun.log file a few times after various runs. It reports that I am using basic mode and that i have 0 bits for 'stencil', but this is prior to it corretly idenitifying my graphics card. Prehaps I need to include options ? I am on FC6 x64 , with an Nvidia FX5200 based card with 256mb video ram. I am using nvidia propriatary drivers. I could probably better optimize nvida specific redering options in xorg.conf, but I don't think thi s is the problem because the inital screen plays just fine. Could the above behavior be a problem with networking? Should I be looking at the logs for dropped packets? Thanks so much for reading my post. Any suggestions would be apprciated.
Sincerely,
