Hey guys,

I have recently set up Ubuntu Hardy and now after some time my avatar start to turn, i can't stop him, it's exctly like i push on the left arrows all the time...
Then i close the SL client but the bug is still there with Ubuntu menu, i must reboot to stop it!
I only have this bug with SL , and when i run it with XP it worx without issue.

I dont know if this bug is from Hardy or SL,

If you have a clue about this....

Thx

Sounds like opengl or a bad/old graphics driver. Also could be xorg.

Try installing updated/latest versions of everything and try it again.

I mean updates. Even though you have the latest version of your operating system on your computer, you might still not have all the latest updates of the software that makes up your operating system.

Remember, if you are using a manually-installed proprietary graphics driver, you will need to re-install it when you update the kernel or xorg. (If you were using OpenSUSE, I could detail exactly how to do that, it's pretty easy.)

Btw, if you didn't have all the necessary software, including OpenGL, on your computer, SL would not run at all. All I'm talking about is having the latest updates.

Also, your problem could be caused by something else entirely. I don't know much about Ubuntu; I use OpenSUSE. Judging from the problems on these forums, I have to say that the distros with the most problems are: Ubuntu/Kubuntu, Gentoo, Mandriva, and especially, any minor distro. I've seen very few problems reported with OpenSUSE and it is one of the most popular OS's in the Linux world. If you ever get tired of messing with Ubuntu's quirkiness, take a trip on the stable side: OpenSUSE 10.3/KDE.

I sometimes have a similar problem on my Hardy box.. (Only Hardy, .. gutsy and Feisty are both without this problem)
mine is usually wont stop walking. ( embarrassing in a busy place) but if I Tap the forward key a few times, normal control is resumed.
I think its an Xorg problem , maybe the interrupt getting lost on KB input.
I seem to remember reading something about a new Xorg being introduced into Hardy ( which as you already pointed out Is still in Alpha stage)
Maybe this should be posted on Launchpad as a bug, thats what us alpha testers are for.

Other than that the only other Hardy issue I encountered was sound in SL client had to uncomment export LL_BAD_ESD=x to have sound working, but I think that is just because of pulseaudio being the new standard in hardy. gnome. (Hardy Kubuntu doesn't suffer this problem though)
Only a few weeks until release date though , so if it is an Xorg bug it really needs sorting.

Tnx I know did it already ..... been an alpha tester for a long time ..

Did you manage to sort your problem ..
After a little more investigation I'm pretty sure its an Xorg prob , On typing in my name on client 99% of the time if I dont wait a second the second "f" gets missed from my name .
Also alot of Xorg related posts are hitting the mailing lists ..
could actually have been fixed already, I had an xorg update yesterday and havn't wandered aimlessly into the crowd since . :)
Hopr its better for you too :)

Like I originally said: updates. Xorg has had a lot of problems recently, and at one point I had to hunt down a patch to fix a problem with extreme unstability. Eventually, they got it fixed.

Hey Adamas!

With Ubuntu & synaptic all the update are make automatically... forthmore Hardy is the lastest version of ubuntu so it use the latest version of their composants...

Anyway i lltry to download a live Cd of Opensuse10.3, i prefer Gnome than Kde. do you think that gnome worx well with OpenSuse?

Ange,

Probably, but I don't know much about Gnome. SL is tested with both KDE and Gnome, so it should work well. As for live cd/dvd's, it won'tbe possible to test SL with those; they don't install the proprietary video drivers you'll need. Only a full install will allow that (regardless of distro).

I don't know synaptic, but I do know you have to tell Ubuntu/Kubuntu to update automatically; they don't do that "out of the box" (I have another computer I use Kubuntu on). I do know that even the not-latest versions of most distros, including Ubuntu, update to the same versions of xorg (as well as other things) as used by the newest. (Unless there's some experimental thing they're trying out!)
