From: CheUnit Fizzle ya I was wondering why my secondlife movies don't work I heard rumors they suspended the movies or if I need a program tobplay them There is no rumour they suspended the movies. The 'why' resides in the fact tho that no matter how you configure your SL for Linux, it will never be able to play Quicktime movies itself, untill Lindenlab let's go of a certain attitude towards usage of Linux. Use Windows or MacOSX for full support and abililty to be hacked if you find it necessary. In short : SL Quicktime movies for Linux de-abled in SL. Result : Windows and OSX Quicktime hacked and fubarred and Apple don't give a crap about it. Yay for U.S. technology and patent-laws.. Won't stop you tho to play any video-file outside of SL with andy distro as you like ofc. Ah .. talking into nowhere.. isn't it lovely ?

Here's the deal, since I reported on this in the Metaverse Messenger:
1. For windows and MacOS, you need the latest Quicktime. This is due to an exploitable security bug that Apple fixed late last year. If you do not, SL will automatically disable video play and won't let you re-enable it (a stop-gap until the press forced Apple's hand). Besides, having someone hijack your avatar isn't fun.
2. For Linux, you need Gstreamer. You need a 32-bit Gstreamer and all the codecs they provide. Tofu already has a Gstreamer output plugin in SL release. There's a thread here all about it, so use Search! Linux is unaffected as long as you use Gstreamer.
