Hiya all...I'm 'fraid I'm not an expert at these things - it's all working well as far as I can see. Well enough for me to be an addict anyway hehe. But one thing: in the communications tab of preferences I can't Change Path for logged IM's & chat. Any clues from you clever people? Plus, the current default path doesn't seem to exist on my hard drive so.....hmmmm. I just started trying to log chat and IM's today. I'm using Ubuntu. Cheers, Circ

glancing at the readme files theres no mention of this being disabled

/home/user/Secondlife... is the PROGRAM directory, where the program, the libraries, the static data (cursors, icons, etc.), the helper utilities, and the system log reside.

/home/user/.secondlife is the USER DATA directory, where the user account, live data, texture cache, user logs, client config reside.

Why you want to merge them?

Ah, if you have troubles "seeing" the .secondlife directory, especially if you use a graphical interface, like KDE or Gnome, try setting the folder view to show you "hidden files". By default, in unix world, all files starting with a dot (".";) are considered hidden ones, and probably your graphical interface doesn't show them to you unless you ask for the hidden files to be shown.

I'm using Ubuntu also and just tried logging the chat. Works nicely. The default folder in Preferences section says /home/my_username/.secondlife/ (Notice the . that marks hidden folder. You can view hidden folders by hitting Ctrl+H) but the chat log itself goes to /home/my_username/.secondlife/faeryan_nemeth/chat.txt

If you can't find your chat.txt there then you should check the folder has all the right permissions. If you have changed your chat log directory to somewhere else then you should maybe create a folder with your character name there just in case.

i found this earlier today, it was late last night, and i should have known

Hi!
The UI for selecting a path to save logfiles is not implemented yet - this can be changed manually by editing InstantMessageLogPath in ~/.secondlife/<residentname>/settings.xml
