I run Ubuntu 6.06 LTS on a Dell Inspiron 1505 with 512 mb of ram. Intel graphics card. When ever I start Sl it will freeze as it starts loading the objects or on precaching. It is a system wide freeze too, must reboot.

I have seen similar freezes that were Graphic Card Driver related... That would be, in my opinion, the first place to start looking - though my experience is limited to NVidia cards. Intel may have its own magic box
