Hi, will log it in Jira, but first i want to try asking if someone else is experiencing the same...
I can get audio through ALSA, but randomly (can be right after login, can be in 3 hours, but usually in 5 minutes) the audio stops completely, and i have to restart SL to get it back.
I always had this problem, starting from the first SL version I tried three months ago. In the meantime, went through a complete OS reinstall and I changed audiocard, without apreciable changes.
SL is the only application affected.
I solved the problem for a while using ESD, but I cannot get it to work with voice, so i had to go back to ALSA.
Any ideas?
EDIT: forgot to mention... only SL audio stops, voice keeps running with ho problems.

I have the same sort of experience with ALSA. Did you file a JIRA in the end?
There is VWR-2490 for similar complaints but no satisfactory resolution. I am interested in solving this problem by fixing the ALSA issues as the sound daemons, e.g. ESD, pulseaudio and the various other suggestions made in the JIRA, introduce quite noticeable latency.
By the way, I found hardwiring the dmix plugin (Fedora seems to have built this for the default card) as the driver used in the openalrc and the ESD (or pulseaudio) configs allows me to use ESD for SL and ALSA for SLVoice.
I can imagine ALSA with a dmix plugin is the default set-up for some distros hence some people have had no difficulties with SLVoice. At the other extreme others may also need to build the dmix plugin for the card they want to use. e.g. a USB headset.

*** Here stood a rant that has moved elsewhere ***
FYI
*-multimedia:0 description: Multimedia audio controller product: SB Live! EMU10k1 vendor: Creative Labs physical id: 8 bus info: pci@00:08.0 version: 07 width: 32 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: bus_master cap_list configuration: driver=EMU10K1_Audigy latency=64 maxlatency=20 mingnt=2 resources: ioport:e880-e89f irq:10
My system with an SB Live! configured with ALSA, crashes whenever listening to radio-streaming. Terminal output shows prior to the crash
WARNING: LLAudioChannelFMOD::cleanup error: An invalid parameter was passed to this function
or
WARNING: LLAudioChannelFMOD::update3DPosition error: An invalid parameter was passed to this function
raging in columns prior to the crash. Appearantly the client tries to use spatial effects that is usable on other platforms, but cannot be passed on by FMOD... at least on my sytem.. which is wild guessing on my side.
To be less boring.. i think SL sound sucks ... i mean.. it's bad .. rly bad... only stops when i actually stop the streaming.. sometimes i can listen for minutes.. sometimes hrs.. sometimes secs..
Only thing working audital are sounds in the grid.. coming from objects or avatars..

Selective sound

I'm having problems with not getting sound when I'm at a bar or nightclub, but I can hear other things like 'typing' or the ocean sound. I dont think it's an issue of faulty hardware but of a preference/setting.
Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!
