I just recently put Yellow Dog linux onto my Ps3, hopefully to be able to run SL on it, since I dont have the money for a second comp and My fiancee and i would like to be able to be on at the same time.
ive Dled the client and already untarred it, but when I go to run the SL client, i get nothing.
my question(s) is/are, does anyone know anything about YDL 6.1 and its compatibility with SL, and has anyone else tried to do this as of yet??

I'm not sure I'm understanding what exactly you did. Please open a terminal window, cd to the Second Life directory that was created when you untarred the download, and then type "secondlife" (without the quote marks). Make a note of any errors you get, and paste them here.

Sorry, but there is no way in the which the official viewer download can be made to run on PS3. Technical users may rebuild it to run on this system, but even then performance will be extremely poor.

From: Tofu Linden Technical users may rebuild it to run on this system, [...] If you're going that way, NightBreed, have a look at the recent SLDev mailing list thread at https://lists.secondlife.com/pipermail/sldev/2009-January/thread.html#12634 for some possible issues and their possible solutions.

I'm not entirely clear on what kind of code runs on the PS3's Cell processor (I'm guessing PowerPC). But graphics processing architecture (RSX) is definitely a show-stopper: From: Wikipedia Although the Cell's performance is more than enough to handle most media requirements or render complex 3D graphics, it does lack the teraflops performance of a contemporary GPU's texture fetching hardware. For this reason many complex games aren't possible on the PlayStation 3 through Linux as access to hardware acceleration in the RSX is restricted by a hypervisor. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux_for_PlayStation_3
