I have a new Dell Precision M6300 laptop and I'm having issues with audio and voice. SL audio comes out of the system speakers but has a soft, continuous clicking sound on it (like the machine's failing to keep the sound card fed.) I am using a Logitech Premium USB headset 350 for voice and have "problem 2" with voice (I have the white dot but I can't see any speakers in the list and I get no audio on the meter when I talk.) Other programs seem to be able to use both devices fine.
Machine spec:
2.4 GHz Intel Dual core (3MB cache)
800MHz FSB
4GB DDR-II RAM (dual channel)
Intel 82801H (ICH

SigmaTel STAC9205 Intel HD audio (PCI ID 8086:284b)
nVidia Quadro FX 1600m graphics
1920x1200 display.
Ubuntu Hardy 8.04 (fully updated)
In my mind this machine isn't short on spec and shouldn't be having any performance-related problems. It turns in between 30-55 FPS (sim dependent) at 1920x1200.
I went through the Linux voice readme. I have all the repositories selected (including "proposed", "backports" and Medibuntu) and all packages are up to date. There is no .asoundrc file in my home directory. The ALSA version is 10.0.16-0ubuntu4 and I didn't download the latest ALSA because 1.0.16 seemed to be it.
I've tried a couple of different values for the modeule options for the hda-intel module but none of these seemed to make any difference.
I'd be really grateful of any pointers on where to go next.
Thanks,
Pap.
