Just a very quick hint. I wasn't running a local name server on my machine since my last upgrade. Can't remember why! Probably just forgot to re-install it. Ooops. But anyway. If you install "bind9" on Debian (and possibly "bind" + "caching-nameserver" on other distros), you get local name server lookups and SL suddenly gets a lot quicker. In fact I was having "Packet not received" login errors this morning. Installed Bind9 and zip straight in. Just thought I'd share.

Yesterday I couldn't spell DNS - Today I is one This "works for me too" - on UBUNTU GUSTY GIBBON it's a case of using Synaptic to install BIND9. Thanks for the tip.

From: Tofu Linden Which version(s) of the client is this good for? Well I only just tried it with 1.18.3.5. It's probably more of a help for the European and further afield types where DNS lookups can take a while I guess.
