Fonts in chat boxes unreadable

I've just downloaded the Linux client and it runs OK - haven't pushed it much yet - but in any edit boxes, i.e. chat, the text is just black blocks - highlighting the text shows the text correctly white on black. Does anyone else have this problem? Does anyone know what may be causing the problem?

Try changing the font color in Preferences under Text Chat.

All dialogs...

... not just chat are affected - for instance the main login screen all the entries for name and password are small black blocks and no readable text unless the box is highlight

I'm not too bad a typist so I don't normally make a mistake but it is disconcerting not being able to read anything you enter into any "edit" box :-(

Hi Comen,

This sounds very much like a font issue - have you installed any 3rd party font packs?

Regards

Norf.

It sounds like a system OpenGL driver bug. Can you post the output of running 'glxinfo'?

I might be wrong, but couldn't this also be pango related?

Not highly likely - we don't use pango/GTK for rendering most fonts.

@Norf - I don't think I have any font packages - I have OpenOffice that has some fonts I think but that's all

@Tofu - here's the output from glxinfo

In the meantime, I've downloaded the source and will try a compile on my system

Comen - this does look a lot like a GL driver bug, your drivers seem very old - first thing to try would be an upgrade of your GL drivers (and optionally, perhaps, the rest of your X packages).

Finally got around to upgrading Ubuntu to Feisty and now Secondlife's fonts are working.
