I've been very pleased with the linux client thus far...However, when I downloaded the new optional update a few days ago..I noticed that the Bumpmapping and Shiny doesn't work anymore, I'm using Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy Eft. I've also noticed that my system has been locking up a lot since this new update...It'll randomly freeze my computer up solid, I can't open up a terminal or anything...Then...If everything works fine, and I close and start SL again, it'll freeze my computer up solid as well... Other than these things, I am very pleased with the linux client...Maybe it's just Ubuntu? I don't know. Any feedback would be nice...Thank you.

Hi Noodles!
See 'problem 3' in the 'troubleshooting' section of README-linux.txt concerning Shiny - that should help.
As for crashes, those are impossible to diagnose without more information (i.e. graphics card, driver) but you may find that the other advice in the 'troubleshooting' section also helps.

I have the same problem with Ubuntu 6.06 and a radeon 9250, using the ati-drivers that came with Ubuntu.
Actually it doesn't happen as often when there are no other programs running. So maybe it really is an Ubuntu problem.
