Hardware or distro? Cannot TP

The previous linux clients did not work on my home system: Athlon 64 dual core (34-bit linux) running Mandriva 2007.0. I am now running 2007.1 and the latest version will at least connect but...once I connect I am unable to teleport anywhere. Attempting to do so takes time with the progress bar moving slowly to the right. When it gets about 2/3 done it fails and I get a message that i've been logged out. I can move around fine in the locale I start in but am simply unable to go anywhere else.

My network card is an NVidia using CK804 driver. It works fine with windows version of seclife...

Oh...I cannot IM either. I tried IMing the linux users group but it never connects.

Everything works fine, however, on my laptop running the SAME distro, but a different net device. Previously, though SL would NOT work on my desktop, it would work on my laptop. Is there something about Nvidia mainboards, nvidia network devices that SL doesn't care for?

Any ideas? Anyone else see this?

Sounds like a firewalling issue

Check if you can walk over region boundaries. If you can't, check your firewall settings against those listed in a search of the knowledge base under 'firewall' (hopefully they got around to updating the list several months back when this happened to me because one of the ports needed was not on the list :-(

I am certain I am running a 34-bit version...I built it from source myself and added a couple bits here and there (OK, 2) to "personalize" it.

Thanks...I haven't tried the client on my laptop through my home network since updating to Mandriva 2007.1 and the new client...

My CPU has four registers and half

Indeed. Extending a CPU data/instruction/mem addressing width, and by only TWO bits, is indeed quite an impressive hardware feat.

Ah, the "wooosh" sound effect you might hear in background is intended. ;)
