I am using Ubuntu and Linux Mint, but doesn't Second Life suppose to be placed in?
/usr/local
Some people state that you can just run it out of the folder from the desktop. Any difference in the way it performs regardless where its placed?
Thanks

It won't make any difference in running it, however it will be easier to install and upgrade from your home folder rather than a root-accessed folder.
Generally, one would likely only install to /usr/local (or /opt or wherever) only when there is more than one person using that computer and using SL. Otherwise, it is probably preferable to run from your home folder (not necessarily desktop, I use /home/userid/programs/lindenlabs). The only thing you need on the desktop is the icon/link. _____________________

Hey, thanks for the reply....I was trying a few 3rd party viewers of deb packages and found this one here ...
http://ubuntu.cafuego.net/ Now after installing the viewer is requesting I download latest viewer, so it seems the viewer is an older version. How would I go about removing Second Life that was installed from a DEB? It won't make any difference in running it, however it will be easier to install and upgrade from your home folder rather than a root-accessed folder. You can install/uninstall packages in Ubuntu using the package manager current for the version you are using.
Here is a link to Ubuntu documentation: https://help.ubuntu.com/ You should be able to find instructions that will work for your version. _____________________
