I've downloaded the new client, but when I try to run it instead of getting the opening splash, I just get a black screen. My system monitor says the process is sleeping, and waiting it out seems to do no good. I tried running from a terminal window, and the output is fine up to a point, where it simply stops dead. Here are the last few lines of output:
That's where it simply freezes. I'm running OpenSuSe, if that helps, and I followed the directions on the nVidia site to update my drivers, so everything should be up to date.
I *have* gotten it to run twice, once upon installing and once this afternoon, both times it ran just fine, and the problem I had where it would crash if I tp-ed twice during a session seems to have been mysteriously fixed. Now if only I can get it to run...

Please post your system's specs (Graphics card, CPU, driver version ect.) and double check that your video drivers support 3D.

From: Zi Ree Please post your system's specs (Graphics card, CPU, driver version ect.) and double check that your video drivers support 3D. The graphics card is a nVidia GeForce4 MX, onboard, with 128M allocated to it. It runs other 3D applications through OpenGL just fine, and ran previous versions of SL without a problem, back to 1.8. I'm not really sure how to get the other information through YAST, sorry.

I had this on the previouis version... The driver version is a bit old, though. And YAST will not allow you to get the latest from NVidia, you have to do that manually. It is fairly straightforward, but only if you are happy with the command line - and redoing part of the procedure with each kernel update Look at http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_display_ia32_1.0-8762.html for the 32 bit driver. There is also a readme as well as the download. I must also add, doing this had no effect for me; the client froze on my NVidia 6800 gts, and ran fine with the same OpenSuse, and the latest NVidia drivers, on a machine with the FX 5200. My first bet would be to delete the contents (only) of the cache directory, and try again. If you have confused garbage in there, SL can bomb out while it reads this, before you even get on.

I wasn't aware that YAST wouldn't get the latest version, since on nVidia's site, they recommend going through YAST. I did get it working in the end, by manually downloading the new drivers and installing them myself. Starts up as normal now.
Interestingly, all my problems with 1.10.0 and 1.10.1 seem to have been solved, basically crashing on startup and if I tp-ed more than once per session. I had to make 6-8 login attempts just to log in, and that was on a good day. All fixed now. So I'm a happy mousey.
