Hi
I have been experimenting with the Linux Alpha client for Second Life, but the graphics do not render properly due to incomptibility of SL with the on-board Intel graphics adapter.
Can anyone recommend a graphics adapter that is both Second Life AND CentOS 4.4 (RHEL 4) Linux compatible that will plug into the PCI bus?
Thanks very much indeed.

Look for the most modern nVidia PCI card you can find. Sadly PCI limits your options a lot - you'll still find that the FX 5200 is available for PCI if you shop hard, though it'll be fairly slow for SL. Some PCI cards from ATI may have more graphics power, but relying upon ATI driver stability on Linux seems to be like playing the lottery.

Looks like you can get an Nvidia 6200 with 256MB of onboard RAM for the PCI bus. Not bad! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814139010

That's a better option!! Not great, but like the comment says, probably the best consumer-level card you'll find for PCI (I doubt you want to spend over $1000 on a pro Quadro card).

Is that PCI? Or PCIe? Just curious, since I am still using AGP

You're kinda stuck there. While getting a NVidia Geforce 6 Series will work, you'll be limited by the PCI (not AGP or PCI Express) bus -- you'll be very slow in areas such as the Pooley SL stage or Furnation Alpha Skymall.
My guess is that at best, you got a server motherboard and using it for home usage. Time to upgrade the whole thing. (I'm looking at a $700 rig right now through NewEgg)
