I know this has been covered, but I am in a real mess here. I run Debian Lenny and I can not get sound working. It *was* working, but Gnome pulled in an update and now SL will not play any sounds correctly. They worked briefly (a week maybe) and then the update b0rked it.
Since I "roll my own" Debian here, I installed KDE and tried the artsd wrapper trick. No sound at *all* in KDE while in SL.
Gnome is still choppy. Installed the esound package, tried all combinations if the LL_BAD tweaks, no joy.
I would be willing to install Fluxbox, or Openbox, something and just boot into it to go in-world. all I need while I am in SL is a browser, I usually toggle off all IM/emails and stuff to save resources anyway.
I am using the Cool Viewer 1.20.16, and I have also pulled down the Debian packges for the Open Metaverse Viewer and Omniviewer Lite. The Lite works, I don't think it *has* sound. But the Open Metaverse Viewer audio works in Gnome but but video crashes the system a few minutes in.
Any help is appreciated.
